Intensive Swedish for engineers and architects – SFINX

SFINX is an education programme for engineers and architects in Stockholm County.

The programme allows you to study with people who have similar educational and occupational backgrounds. Together, you will create valuable networks inside and outside the school.

Brief description of the programme:

  • intensive education programme for engineers and architects with a foreign background
  • vocationally-oriented, intensive Swedish language studies
  • insight into how things work in Swedish working life: communication in working life, codes, unwritten rules and professional vocabulary
  • practice writing personal letters and job interview skills
  • visits to workplaces, such as Sweco, ÅF and Scania
  • opportunity to participate in a mentorship programme in collaboration with the Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers (Sveriges Ingenjörer)
  • opportunity to take courses at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).

Education programme structure

If you start at the SFI CT level and study up to the upper secondary school's final course, Swedish as a second language 3 (SVA 3), the programme takes about 1.5 years.

Collaboration with KTH

When you enroll at SIFA to study at the upper secondary level, you can follow and observe courses at KTH. You can apply for KTH courses twice a year and courses start twice a year – the autumn term and spring term. 

Mentor opportunities

For studies on the basic and upper secondary levels, you will be assigned a mentor in collaboration with the trade union/professional organisation, the Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers (Sveriges Ingenjörer). The mentor is selected to match your professional background and experience. You will participate in a well-developed mentor programme, where you will meet regularly with your mentor for five months. You will also meet with others who are participating in the mentor programme.
